Pro-Monsanto think tank helped funnel Republican money into the Hillary Clinton campaign

(NaturalNews) The president of a conservative nonprofit organization assisted a billionaire Clinton donor with securing the support of Republicans for Democrat Hillary Clinton's failed presidential bid, the donor – Lynn Forester de Rothschild – disclosed in an email to John Podesta, The Daily Caller reported.

A spokesperson for the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) confirmed that indeed, de Rothschild knows the head of the nonprofit, Arthur Brooks, but strongly denied that he helped, or was in any way in contact with the Clinton campaign, claiming instead that de Rothschild misunderstood what Brooks was saying.

The DC noted that on June 28, nearly two months after Donald J. Trump clinched the GOP nomination, de Rothschild forwarded an email chain between her and Brooks to Podesta, Clinton's campaign manager, and former Walmart executive Leslie Dach. As reported by Politico, Dach headed up the effort to bring aboard disaffected Republicans into Clinton's circle.

In her email, de Rothschild told Podesta and Dach that the AEI chief was "helping me with many Republicans." The chain between de Rothschild and Brooks shows her pushing him over how best to "engage you with Hillary," with Brooks responding that he would be "delighted to talk with Hillary or her campaign people."

Not much to misunderstand there.

The email chain between the two began with an email dated June 27 from de Rothschild letting Brooks know about Republicans and "business leaders" who were siding with Clinton. Then she added, "I know what we talked about on our call, but I am wondering whether we could talk again about how to engage you with Hillary?? Please let me know if I can call you again without becoming a nuisance!!!"

She went on to write that the election was "vitally important," and that Trump did not represent the GOP's values or the needs of the country.

Brooks replied that he would be "delighted" to talk with the candidate or her campaign officials, as the Monsanto-aligned AEI was "dedicated to helping whomever we can to build good policy, and in a totally nonpartisan way." He added: "Lots of Democrats seek out our scholars for advice!"

De Rothschild replied that all there is left "is bipartisanship" (notice how the Left always wants the Right to compromise, but it never does), adding, "I cannot believe where we are with this election."

Brooks wrote that the times were "interesting," and that there were many opportunities for people to come together to achieve shared goals and uphold "key values." And he said that he believed the GOP support for Hillary would disappear if she chose Left-wing radical Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., as her running mate (which some speculated she might do at the time).

Spinning the obvious

De Rothschild then forwarded the email to Dach and Podesta, calling Brooks an "unlikely friend of ours," and asking if they could all "talk about this," because "he is helping me with many Republicans."

AEI spokeswoman Judy Mayka told The DC that Brooks indeed knew de Rothschild, but did not have any contact with anyone in the Clinton campaign, and did not provide any assistance of any kind. She also denied that Brooks worked "at any time" to bring Republicans into the Clinton camp. "Any assertion to this effect is mistaken," she said in an email to The DC.

But after viewing the entire email chain, she issued a longer statement, claiming that the exchange showed that Brooks shared "what is the AEI policy as a non profit, non partisan, public policy institution." She added that the think tank and its scholars and staff are ready to brief anyone who shows an interest in issues of public policy.

That, of course, is spin, given the specifics outlined in the email exchange. But that's what spokespeople for the guilty do: try to make you disbelieve what you see and hear.
